Kelly Cass (born November 27, 1973) is an American meteorologist working as an on-camera meterorologist (OCM) at The Weather Channel.

Education and career

Cass is a native of Poughkeepsie, New York, beginning her higher education at nearby Dutchess Community College in 1985 and graduating with an Associate in Science degree in communications in 1987. From there, she attended Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, as a foreign exchange student studying journalism from 1987 to 1988. While in South Korea, she also worked as a model and studied taekwondo, leveling up to a red belt. After her time there, she returned to New York to attend Garden City's Adelphi University in 1988, where she graduated in 1990 with a bachelor's degree in communications.

Not long after she obtained her bachelor's degree, she began her career at WTZA-TV (now WRNN) in Kingston, New York, as an associate editor, reporter, and later, a weathercaster. In December 1992, she moved to WRGB-TV in Schenectady, NY, where she worked as the morning weekday meteorologist and, occasionally, a field reporter, through 1999. For her work there during the infamous blizzard of 1993, she received a "best storm coverage" award from the New York State Broadcaster's Association. She worked on obtaining her Certificate in Broadcast Meteorology through Mississippi State University from 1995 to 1998.

Cass began her career with The Weather Channel in January 2000 and has remained there since. She also has worked as a freelance OCM for stations WXIA-TV and WKRN-TV.

Personal life

Cass is married and has three children. In her earlier years, Cass was very involved in athletics, including soccer, volleyball, and softball, a trend she continued with her taekwondo experience in Korea. She still enjoys biking, skiing, and hiking.

Unsurprisingly, weather, especially severe weather, is one of Cass's biggest interests. Being from New York and reporting through major blizzards including that of 1993, Cass is particularly interested in winter storms and lake-effect snow systems.
