Pelmorex

Pelmorex Corp. is a Canadian weather information and media company. Through its subsidiary, Pelmorex Weather Networks, it owns and operates The Weather Network and MétéoMédia, two Canadian specialty weather networks. Pelmorex also operates Alert Ready, Canada’s nationwide public alerting system.

History

Pelmorex Corp. was founded as Pelmorex Media Inc. in 1989 by Pierre L. Morrissette. Shortly after its founding, Pelmorex filed applications to the CRTC to acquire The Weather Network and MétéoMédia. The CRTC approved the acquisition in 1993. Following talks with Landmark Communcations, The Weather Channel was brought on as a minority shareholder in 1996.

Following the sale of The Weather Company to IBM in 2015, Pelmorex Media Inc. acquired Weather Group Television’s 49% stake in the company, shifting complete ownership to Pelmorex Management Inc.[1]
